Volunteering at Ramler Park is a wonderful way to meet new friends, participate in community events, share your gardening expertise, or learn new skills under the watchful tutoring of some of our master horticulturists. Choose the time, type and level of involvement that works best for you. We would love to see you in the park!

Weeding Wednesdays

Our maintenance coordinator schedules weekly ‘weeding’ sessions during the growing season to ensure the plants are properly tended, pruned, supported, and weeded. All tools are provided, and expert advice is available for those wishing to learn the finer arts of plant identification, rose care, or for anyone who wants to spend an hour or more tending to the park. All skill levels are welcome. Dates and times will be posted on our calendar.

Annual Plant Divide

Once a year we do some heavy lifting, and have a day-long session to divide the larger plants, and share the bounty with local friends, be it The Fenway Victory Gardens, or other worthy recipients. We need a show of strength, come on down and get your green on! The date is announced in February, and will be posted here, on our calendar, and on our FaceBook Page. Help us divide and conquer!

Spring and Fall Cleanups

Ramler Park is densely packed with perennial plantings, flowering and deciduous trees, evergreens, climbing vines, bushes, shrubs and annuals. Join us in the spring to prepare the park for the new season, clear away old growth, turn on the fountain and sprinkler system, and lay in the annuals. In the fall, we’ll need to rake, and cut back spent blooms, shut down and clean the fountain, and prepare the park for winter.

Each summer, we host a Summer Concert Series. The Friends arrange for talent, funding, and promotion of the events. We coordinate with our horticultural volunteers to make sure the park is in peak form for these events, which are typically early evening and end before dusk. Check out our events page to see some performance videos and photos.
